The week we’re shell-ebrating (26.5.23)

We Can Halle Believe It’s Here

Disney’s The Little Mermaid hits the big screen today! Here’s a special message from director Rob Marshall and producer John DeLuca to everyone at Framestore who gave their skills and their time creating Ariel and her home, friends, and family. Massive congratulations to Andy Kind, Pablo Grillo, and our talented artists across LDN, MTL, and MUM.

Some of the LDN team attended a cast and crew screening over the weekend to take an early look at the long-awaited film, and the MUM team have their screening this evening.

Hi Barbie!

Margot Robbie graces the cover of fashion bible Vogue, and, along with Greta Gerwig, Ryan Gosling and production designer Sarah Greenwood, gives the world the inside scoop on Barbie, which we learn is “a mad fantasy of gorgeousness” (obvs) and taps something Gerwig describes as “authentic artificiality.”

If this trailer is anything to go by, we’re hooked! We can’t wait to see what the skilled sorts in FPS, MTL and MUM brought to this wonderful panoply of pink.

After a week of teasing, Dua Lipa has finally released her disco single, “Dance the Night,” for the upcoming Barbie movie, where she will make an appearance as a mermaid Barbie.

Aaaand… Action!

Netflix introduced their newly appointed Chief Action Officer, Arnold Schwarzenegger, in a video roundup of Netflix’s upcoming action films and series, offering fresh glimpses of “Heart of Stone.”

A Wheel-y Early First Look

Exclusive first-look images from Amazon’s Wheel of Time S2 appeared in Entertainment Weekly this week, ahead of the Season 2 premiere on September 1st. Hopefully we’ll get a trailer soon, showing off the VFX from Andy Scrase, Patti Llaguno, and the LDN team.

Curtain Call for Mrs Maisel

All episodes of Prime Video’s beloved The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are live for its fifth and final season, and Frametore’s New York-based VFX team was tasked with fully recreating scenes of Times Square in the 1960s. The team incorporated classic cars, time-accurate ads, and pedestrians to bring the hustle and bustle of the city to life in a historically accurate and photoreal way.
