The week we sign off for 2022 (22.12.22)

We’re coming for you, Oscar

We are incredibly proud to see three films featuring our teams’ work in this year’s VFX Oscar shortlist. The titles are:
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore, which was led by Production VFX Supervisor Christian Manz and features the talents of our LDN, MTL and FPS teams. Top Gun: Maverick, piloted by Production VFX Supervisor Ryan Tudhope and delivered by the MTL team under the Method Studios banner. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, which was conjured by VFX Supervisor Alexis Wajsbrot and features work from our teams in LDN and MUM. A huge congratulations to the brilliant artists, producers and technologists whose amazing work helped get these films to this stage. Fingers crossed for the bakeoff!

The last hurrah

UK audiences are finally getting the chance to catch up with His Dark Materials S3 with first episode appearing on telly and the whole box set available on iPlayer. The final season of His Dark Materials was a truly monumental project for us: a five-year, 5,100-shot journey that took in talent from LDN, MTL, MUM and NY. A huge congratulations to the many, many artists, producers and technologists who worked so hard to raise the bar for episodic VFX, and made the world of His Dark Materials so thoroughly spectacular. Reviews are also starting to come in with the Guardian hailing our “astonishing CGI”, calling it “superlative”. The writer also gave a special mention to our Design team, whose work on the Angel sequence has been described as “a delicately animated sequence of diaphanous spirits in a starry skyscape”.

White Noise is coming to Netflix

December 30th sees the release of White Noise, Noah Baumbach’s audacious adaptation of the famously-unfilmable novel by Don DeLillo. Tune in for a darkly comic feature that pits day-to-day mundanity against real-life horror, and marvel at some incredible VFX work courtesy of our teams in MTL and MUM. Hats off to VFX Supervisors Phil Brennan and Jonathan Fawkner who saw this one over the line!

Well Loki here

Disney+ released a trailer including upcoming shows in 2023, including a first look at the highly anticipated second season of Loki! The new season follows the God of Mischief as he travels through time and causes chaos in different eras and realities. The show is scheduled to land on Disney+ in 2023!

Yes we Pan

Also part of the 2023 teaser was the world’s first brief peek at Peter Pan & Wendy, which features mesmerising work courtesy of our MTL and MUM studios. This one features some seriously incredible work, and we can’t wait to see more in the new year! Director David Lowery (The Green Knight) is similarly chuffed with how it’s looking, having said “I’ve never been as in love with a movie as I am with this one.”

The Greatest Storyteller

Framestore teamed up with Fold7 to deliver Audible’s latest heartwarming campaign ‘The Greatest Storyteller’. The spot highlights the power audio books can have on a person’s emotions and how to master them successfully. The spot received its final grade from Company 3’s Jean-Clément Soret.
