The week that will croc your world (14.10.22)

A Croc-tastic Release

Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile hits UK theatres TODAY! Make sure to get your tickets to see the wonderful work by our MEL studio as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the Australian audience has to be a little more patient as the film is due to be released on the 26th December there. Sony arranged an early screening for the MEL team and family members last week. What a fantastic event, and what a fun film!

Let the fairytale begin

The wait is nearly over! The School for Good and Evil is scheduled to be released on Netflix on Wednesday, 19th October and we finally get to see the wonderful work by our teams in LDN, MTL and MUM. In honour of the anticipated release, Netflix treated us to a second trailer. Make sure to check it out below!

The power of the crown

Variety features newly released images of the upcoming fifth season of The Crown by Netflix. The images feature a brand new cast and work by our talented LDN IA team.

Voyage to the edge of Imagination

In honour of the opening of Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination last week, London Science Museum released a video giving you a sneak peek of this out-of this-world experience. Hacking Google Series

To promote its anti-hacking task force, Google Creative Labs produced a compelling 6-episode documentary series that showcases the precautions it takes and how it defends its users with airtight cyber security. Our NY based team assembled full screen and green screen elements using Nuke and Flame to help illustrate these techniques in an energetic edit.

Pinocchio talk with Guillermo Del Toro

We were honoured to welcome the legendary Guillermo Del Toro at our LDN studio. Guillermo spoke about his upcoming stop-motion feature, Pinocchio, and was accompanied by Director of Character Fabrication Georgina Hayns. Their visit left everyone feeling so inspired! We’ll be sharing the recording for you to watch next week.

Black Tech Fest

Framestore’s Rakiya Suleiman, Product Manager Systems Engineering, joined the Black Tech Fest this week for an illuminating discussion about her pathway into tech, pivoting, and being a successful black woman in the industry. Congratulations on this great opportunity!

A Trip to LDN

Our LDN studio welcomed some very special guests this week: Ravi Pareek (Compositing Supervisor), Rohit Agrawal (Head of Tracking), and Kartiki Patil (Head of Resource Management) came all the way from MUM for a two-week stay. With MUM contributing so much incredible work to our film and episodic slate it’s important to help cement strong bonds between members of our global team, as well as share skills, experiences, intel and ways of working. While the dynamic trio were slammed with meetings we hope they enjoyed the city (particularly the rare October sunshine!), meeting their peers in person and seeing our LDN studio! Here’s hoping for more inter-studio travel in the very near future!

On Tour in the US

The LDN Labs team (including Jonny Dixon, Robin Carlisle, Derin Owodunni and Warren Ayling) returned from their US Tour where they visited project sites including Morgan Stanley, 30 and 50 Hudson Yards in NY as well as Goldman Sachs in NY and Dallas. During their time in the US, the team helped to prepare screens, carried out testing, installed media players and hardware. What a great experience!

NY Quiz Night

Our colleagues in NY organised a quiz night in their studio hosted by Mo Mascai-Goren on Thursday.

Weekend Outing in MTL

MTL Botanical Gardens hosts the Gardens of Light fall festival every year to celebrate the harvest season. Hundreds of lanterns flood the gardens with light, illuminating the landscape with bursts of bright colours. This year more than 40 Framestorians enjoyed this annual tradition for a light-filled weekend outing.

Fireflies West Arrival Party

Mike McGee joined the Fireflies once again, this time to bike 550 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to raise money for the City of Hope cancer research facility. The riders were greeted in Santa Monica with a party to celebrate their success and support. If you are interested in donating, please do so here.

Dancing with the Guardians of the Galaxy

A Guardians of the Galaxy themed Cha Cha on Strictly Come Dancing caught the eye of Director James Gunn. If the previous films are anything to go by, the Guardians of the Galaxy don’t mind a little dancing (though this time it’s Gamora, not Groot).

That’s it for this week’s Round Up!
