The week we wonder whether it’s a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare (29.7.22)

Dream Dangerously

Based on Neil Gaiman’s beloved comic series, The Sandman is a character-driven blend of myth and dark fantasy woven together over the course of ten epic chapters that follow Dream’s (Tom Sturridge) many adventures. The series, featuring stellar work from our LDN and MUM teams, comes to Netflix on August 5th. Only a few more sleeps to go!

Netflix also released a video featuring author Neil Gaiman explaining the story behind The Sandman and the character’s god-like siblings, The Endless.

Hunting the Beast

Ahead of the August release of Beast, Idris Elba gives us a run-through of the film’s plot.

And we also have an exclusive BTS video of the cast on set. We can’t wait to finally see the work our of our talented teams in LDN and MUM on the big screen!

The Guardians are on their way

Marvel Studios’ confirmed the release date of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 during Comic Con. You’ll be able to admire the superb work by our VAN, MTL, MUM, and LDN studios in theatres on the 5th May 2023.

Variety

After much speculation Noah Baumbach’s White Noise has been confirmed as the opening film for the prestigious Venice Film Festival. It’s the first time a Netflix film has opened the festival, and the festival director has described it as “an original, ambitious and compelling piece of art which plays with measure on multiple registers: dramatic, ironic, satirical.” A huge congratulations to the brilliant MTL team who’ve worked so hard on this one! Read all about it here.

Meet Cloud Engineer Raymond Gumti (NY) who snacks too much (don’t we all), loves the Wyoming mountains, and builds too many custom mechanical keyboards. He will also be at this year’s SIGGRAPH giving a talk about how Framestore met the challenges of a global pandemic, leveraging the AWS Cloud while working with household-name brands and bringing to life the world’s best-loved characters.

Welcome back to the MTL studio

The return to the office/hybrid working is now fully underway in MTL! The Animation team was the first department to have the opportunity to discover (or rediscover!) the studio. For the occasion, the facilities team worked hard to ensure the warmest welcome for our teams, as well as a smooth return to the office. The day started with a shared breakfast in the nicely decorated studio’s 9th floor kitchen, where Melinka and the facilities team gave a welcome speech. This was followed by a studio tour, and then a desk set-up session to ensure everyone is fully operational from the studio. Special thanks to the facilities team for the great organisation!

The team working on Eden treated themselves to an evening filled with fun, laughter, and good food on the terrace of our MTL studio. Well deserved!

Framestore FC Montreal, on the road to the playoffs!

With three amazing goals from Luis (assisted by Leah and Gary), Framestore FC won 3-1 this week against Digital Domain. This victory moved the team to 3rd place while securing their spot in the playoffs! Next week, the team is playing Mathematic Studio for their last game of the season, and probably the toughest one! Mathematic Studio, whom the team tied at the last game, is currently ranked 1st place with losing only one game. We wish our team good luck!

LDN Softball Update
