Red Notice Premieres
Red Notice arrives in cinemas today (and on Netflix next week). The cast took to the red carpet to mark the films’ opening, producing this hilarious encounter from Variety, courtesy of Ryan Reynolds. Congratulations to the entire MTL team on this action-packed comedy.
Goodnight, Moon
Lionsgate dropped a teaser for Roland Emmerich’s Moonfall, showing Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and crew taking on the end of the world. This one features some stellar work from VFX Supe Bob Winter (MTL) and his team.
That’s a Wrap
Netflix announced that shooting on 1899 wrapped this week, huge congratulations to overall VFX supe Christian Kaestner (MTL) and the multi-disciplinary team on set in Berlin, who worked tirelessly to help make the show a reality.
Jilted(?) Marvel Hero is a Bit of a Thor Point
Den of Geek revealed some behind the scenes photos from Thor: Love and Thunder this week, with a flashback scene appearing to show Chris Hemsworth’s character perusing engagement rings during the Thor: The Dark World era. Director Taika Waititi says we’re in for a “full blown love story” as fans wonder if Thor and Dr Jane Foster will finally work things out. Framestore’s are working alongside Method for this latest Marvel masterpiece.

The LDN team delivered an emotional and impactful film which played at the World Leaders Summit Opening Ceremony. Elegantly graded by Steffan Perry (LDN), the impact of this work is already being felt and we’re proud to have been a part of this influential project.

We Shot JR
French artist JR, to be precise. A 4 minute piece featuring stills supplied by JR, designed to be played on two large screens when world leaders took to the stage. The LDN team also delivered variations of the main conference introduction film (90 secs of the planet from space) featuring voiceover from Professor Brian Cox. Other deliverables included web content, socials and a building projection for the ‘SEC Armadillo’, one of the venues of the conference. Amazing work guys, doesn’t sound like you’ve had your hands full at all!
Dinosaur? It’s a Make-Sure-You-Saw-Us
And we can’t talk COP26 without mentioning Frankie the Dinosaur, who garnered press attention for his impassioned “Don’t Choose Extinction” speech last week. Campaign selected the piece as one of the best ads raising awareness of the climate crisis. Directed by Murray Butler, Framestore Pictures.
Dell Technologies / Apex Unveil
Joining forces with the team at VMLY&R, the NY team brought CG prowess to a sleek advert for Dell that sees a woman pondering the unveiled possibilities when it comes to the future of machines and inventions.

BFX
Manne Ohrstrom, Theo Jones, and Nathan Walster (LDN) gave a talk at Bournemouth Uni’s BFX this week. exploring how the convergence of realtime workflows and traditional VFX are opening new approaches to filmmaking. Joe Lyons, Vicky Pleschko & Luke Anderton (LDN) also made an appearance to chat to the students about careers in VFX.

Aesthetica Short Film Fest
VFX Supervisor Stuart Penn (LDN) graced the stage at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival this week, to discuss the increasingly vital role played by VFX in film and television production.
Spark Animation
Animation Supervisor Aulo Licinio and Compositing Supervisor Frederikke Glick (MTL) leant their voices to the Spark Animation conference this week to talk Tom & Jerry. You can watch their talk on bringing these iconic characters to life here.



Academy of Arts University

Oh My Gourd 🎃
Things got spooky as MTL hosted an excellent costume and pumpkin carving competition. Julien Tremblay took the top sport for his fantastic viking costume, and Antoine Goethals’s angler fish pumpkin squashed the competition. LDN also got the sharp knives out and had a pumpkin carving battle, in which Victor Fernandez’s ‘Sasquash’ (bottom right) claimed the crown.
