The week we’re dying to save the world (30.07.21)

Squad’s all here

The wait is over – for the UK at least – as The Suicide Squad hits cinemas from TODAY! If you’re in the US, you’ll have to wait another 7 days (but it’s worth the wait if you ask us).

With 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the highest score for a superhero movie EVER, and plenty of love for King Shark, sink your teeth into the flow of praise for the movie from press and the Twittersphere:

IGN: ‘endlessly shocking and funny, and its showcase of F-list DC villains is nothing short of brilliant.’

CNet: ‘A gory, glorious and deranged delight’

USA Today: ‘a bloody marvel that blows up the superhero genre’

The Tomorrow War

In a mere 12 weeks our MTL teams brought The Tomorrow War to life with an apocalyptic Miami, deadly aliens and speedy fighter jets. The movie has taken the top spot on Nielsen’s U.S. streaming chart, even beating Disney+’s Luca. Congratulations to all who were involved, you can read more about our work on our website here.

Some alien-lovin on twitter:

1899

Dark Bay have released the first image of their LED volume set-up, which is being used for new Netflix title 1899. It’s a split-site show between LDN and MTL, and it promises to be HUGE.

AICP Post Awards

Our Creative Director, Sharon Lock (LDN) has been recognised for her groundbreaking work on Libresse/ Bodyform’s #Wombstories. The boundary-smashing campaign uncovers the unspoken truths to explore the complex relationships women have with their wombs. Congratulations to all involved on what is the 36th recognition from multiple awards bodies this year!

Budget Direct

The LDN IA team’s work on this new Budget Direct spot included creating a video-game inspired CG character, his neon-green-speeding-machine and pixel auto reconstruction. The finishing touches were made by Steffan Perry (LDN) with a wonderful grade.

DigiPro 2021

Global Head of Software VFX, Manne Öhrström (LDN), Machine Learning R&D Engineer, Leo Hills (LDN), and VFX Supe, Theo Jones (LDN) spoke at DigiPro virtual conference this week, presenting on FIRA – a machine learning-based pipeline.

#InColour

Beau Leon (LA) makes Camila Cabello’s new single ‘Don’t Go Yet’ pop with a lively grade.

Stormin’ into the lead

Flamestorm took on the CNN Thrashers, totally thrashing them in an 18 – 4 win.

Special mention to MVPs this week: Ella Weeks and Stuart Whelbourn for some rockstar batting. We also need to thank our first international fan, repping the Flamestorm swag all the way from Milan, Italy… our very own Laura Frasnelli’s nan!
