The week we’re in Vegas, baby (21.05.21)

Army of the Dead

Make it RAINNNNNN. MTL’s staggering work on the epic zombie heist movie – featuring the infamous zombie tiger, Valentine – is out TODAY on Netflix. In the words of Zack Snyder, “I couldn’t have asked for a better partner than Framestore. They did an amazing job bringing our post-apocalyptic world of Army of the Dead to life.” Here’s that trailer one more time for the fans:

Here’s some of the early reviews and reactions:

Tech Radar – Snyder’s best movie yet

Telegraph – A big, bombastic thrill

iNews – Sheer point-and-yell-over-your-beer entertainment

Army of the Dead’s Alpha zombie gives us his best bloody smile for the cover of the latest SFX mag issue.

Netflix take their marketing to the next level with the deadly Valentine on the prowl in central London:

#LongLiveThePrince

The immensely talented QPR footballer Kiyan Prince, who was tragically killed at age 15, was brought back to virtual life 15 years later as a non-playable character for FIFA 21. Our CCO, Mike McGee, Global Real-Time Director, Karl Woolley Creative Technologist, Johannes Saam; Global Head of Creatures, Markus Schmidt and Senior Designer, David Lochhead worked with leading experts to accurately recreate Kiyan as the 30 year old man he would have been today. The campaign will raise money for the Kiyan Prince Foundation, founded and run by Kiyan’s father, to aid it’s crucial work campaigning against knife-crime.

Environments Panel

Head of Environments, Carlos Munoz (MTL) and his team chatted about what makes their department oh so great in a virtual ‘open house’. Speakers included a cast of stellar environment artists: Kristen Tooley, Arnaud Havart, Pascal Bruguiere, Scott Coates and Alejandro Lavrador Ibanez and the panel was moderated by our very own Head of Recruitment, Benoit Debaecker.

You’ve been [Framed]

This week it’s 2-for-the-price-of-1. We meet two incredible artists who have worked on some of our most recent (and impressive) projects.

First meet Émilie Gagnon, Production Coordinator (MTL) who’s been deep in zombie heist action over the last few months working on Army of the Dead and clearly she’s been learning from it… making it home two minutes before the Government sanctioned curfew! Hats off to you, Émilie. Read more here.

Next up meet Hernan Llano, CG Supervisor (LDN) who’s most recent work includes the stunning SHEBA Hope Reef and word to the wise, if you can’t find him your best bet is to check Eat Tokyo. Read more on Hernan here.

Back to School

We need representatives from every department, at every level and across all skill sets! Our Senior Talent and Resource Manager, Liz Oliver (LDN) is looking for volunteers for our Schools Outreach Programme. The programme aims to help young people think about a career in VFX but also get them to see how achievable that really can be, for anyone, across any sort of skill set. The best part: you get to inspire young talent and it’ll only take ten mins o your time!

Message or email Liz Oliver if you’d like to get involved.

Go on, Laura!

The wonderful Laura Anderson, Layout TD from our LDN office, will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on October 10th to raise money for The Lullaby Trust in memory of her son, Evan.

Please join us in supporting Laura and if you can, donate here!

Just a quick reminder that MTL will be OOO on Monday 24th May whilst they enjoy a public holiday.

That’s it for this week – have a nice weekend all!
