The week we ignore social distancing and go to His House (30.10.20)

The Midnight Sky

Take a look at the first official trailer for the Netflix sci-fi drama which will hit your screens just in time for the Holidays on 23rd December. Well done to both LDN and MTL teams who been working hard to bring it to life.

His House

After premiering at Sundance Festival to rave reviews, the new horror His House hits Netflix from today and puts a terrifying twist on the haunted house story.

The IA team in London delivered all of the film’s VFX work with Pedro Sabrosa at the helm as overall VFX Supervisor. More on the work that went into it coming soon.

Here’s the trailer again in case you missed it:

Art Department turns 10

To celebrate 10 years of our Art Department we did an instagram takeover of work across their illustrious history. Also be sure to check out this AMAZING video, which features some special birthday messages from our clients, colleagues and peers:

His Dark Materials

We got a great mention in Radio Times’ preview of His Dark Materials; “…instead of stepping back, Framestore take the opportunity to do more with the daemons they have, with Lyra’s shapeshifting daemon Pan showing off various new and beautiful animal forms in just the first episode.”

Read more from the article here.

Creative Director, TV, Russ Dodgson talks about how the creatures in His Dark Materials are brought to life in this BTS video shared by HBO: 1500 creature shots, 50 daemons.

While we’re still on HDM,

“Mrs Coulter is nothing without her Monkey”. Ruth Wilson, aka His Dark Materials‘ Mrs Coulter, personally thanks Russ Dodgson and the team at Framestore for the work on her daemon as she accepted her Welsh BAFTA.

Suicide Squad

We’re loving this Empire Magazine December cover interview with James Gunn featuring exclusive images of Suicide Squad, including Polka Dot Man, King Shark and Weasel.

Halloween Contest Winners

Thank you all for your efforts for this year’s Halloween competitions, the winners (including pet owners) will receive a small prize for being the gruesomest of them all. On that note, let’s take a look at this creative & creepy bunch:

All the way from the US, Data Services Assistant Pam Atadero takes the crown for costume, what a hot dawg.

The costume winner goes to Gabriela Salmero’s TERRIFYING vampire dog, obviously.

Lead creature FX TD, Mike Thompson’s disturbing (but brilliant) skull gave our judges pumpkin to talk about.

and for most creative artwork, Lead Animator, Marion Strunck’s horror short film, Working Late, takes the win. If you’re brave enough watch it here, password is: halloween.

Compositor, Monique O’Halloran stars as The Little Mermaid‘s Ursula, taking the lead for costume.
