The week we’re cruising into the weekend (04.10.19)

HPA Awards

We’ve been nominated in the Outstanding Visual Effects category at this year’s HPA Awards for both Pokemon: Detective Pikachu and Spider-Man: Far From Home. We’ve got everything crossed for the awards show on the 21st November in LA.

We released the mesmerising Show and Tell for Spider-Man: Far From Home and its getting a lotta love.

Watch VFX Supe, Alexis Wajsbrot’s (LDN) interview with Insider to find out more about the impressive ‘Illusion Battle’ scene, described “one of the stand-out animated sequences of the summer.”

His Dark Materials

With a month to go, HBO have dropped a new trailer for one of the year’s most hotly-anticipated TV shows of the year.

Ahead of the exciting release of the BBC/HBO adaptation, this weekend’s The Sunday Times magazine will feature the magical world of Lyra, Pantalaimon, Iorek, Ms Coulter and lofty Lord Asriel Russell Dodgson was interviewed for the article. The Framestore team created the cover image for both the print and digital issues.

Celebrity Cruises – Wonder Awaits

The LDN advertising team helped to create the dreamy wonderland of this luxurious commercial for Celebrity Cruises. A stand-out scene of the film, in which the main character shrinks and runs across the dinner table, was created using a 3 inch 3D printed model as a stand-in for the actor to shoot live action plates on a table top.

And in case you want to see the ad in the wild. Here it is playing on the famous screens in Times Square.

NHS celebrates male nurses

We enjoyed working with the NHS and agency MullenLowe on this beautiful commercial, providing invisible VFX and carrying out the subtle yet effective colour grade.

This week we’ve over at Bournemouth University participating in a whole bunch of events for BFX, the UK’s largest VFX, computer games and animation festival.

To kick things off, Igor Jovanovic delved into the mind-bending Illusion Battle sequence for Spider-Man: Far From Home, with particular emphasis on the creative process.

Our recruitment team hosted a screening of Avengers: Endgame, with Mikhail Gubkin giving an overview of the FX in the film beforehand

The following day our ATD, Lucy Wisada sat on the Animated Women UK panel; they discussed roles in the industry and gave advice to future artists.

In addition, Recruiters Annie Barlow and Emma Le Roy hosted an evening for students at Aruba Club as well as a Framestore lunch offering plenty of free pizza and the chance to discuss entry level roles and the application process.

Interns from the LDN office were interviewed by Access: VFX about their experiences working with us.

LA Summer Party

The LA office hosted their summer party last Friday at Rush Street bar in Downtown Culver City. The party was SO wild we don’t have any pictures of them so here’s some stand-in office party stock photos and we’ll leave the rest to your imagination.

NYC Pub Quiz night

Clearly not so wild, with plenty of photos, the NY office hosted a Pub Quiz last night, testing our knowledgeable Framestorians. The winning team name is an interesting one – ‘Sarahously Fernkin Disgracephil’, and was made up of Shayne Ryan, Nico Cappuccio , Jon Burke, Will Frazier, Leigh-Anne Pike and Maura Hurley.

The latest Framestore Connect activity over in MTL invited employees and their family to discover Montreal’s tastiest neighbourhood. The families took a tour of Little Italy where they learned about its history and landmarks. Stay tuned for more activities soon!

As well as a Pub Quiz, we’ll be raising money with a Bake Sale, raffle and VR demos of GoT VR experience, Beyond the Wall.

Walking with Dinosaurs

20 years ago today, the first episode of ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ aired. Framestore re-created the extinct animals from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous eras creating nearly two and a half hours of photorealistic CG animation for the programme.
