The week we’re in Dreamland (29.03.19)

Take a trip to Dreamland

Tim Burton’s hotly-anticipated Dumbo is out in cinemas TODAY. The film features some stunning environments courtesy of our Montreal whizzkids, so clap your hands (or yer big ears) in appreciation!

VFX Voice

The VES members’ magazine discusses Framestore’s work on those Dreamland sequences which we painstakingly built up, only to burn down the ground like utter maniacs 🤘

British Arrows Awards

We are proud to have picked up another British Arrows Award this week. The Framestore team that worked on McDonald’s #ReindeerReady film took home a silver CGI award for the incredible work they did on the campaign’s CG Reindeer – Grant, Suzanne & Ahmed were on stage to collect.

And a big well done to everyone that worked on Spike Jonze and Apple’s Welcome Home commercial, Waitrose’s Too Good to Wait, BMW’s The 8 – Venice and Nike’s Never Ask – Maltzsev – all projects that went home with awards.

What’s new, Pikachu?

See the brand new Detective Pikachu TV spot here (he just gets cuter!)

Broadcast Tech

Head of VR, Karl Woolley (LDN) spoke to Broadcast Tech about the promising future of VR. Read about it here.

NZ Herald

Air New Zealand’s ‘Fact or Fantasy’ mixed-reality experience is “clever stuff and eloquently developed.” Read the article here.

Captain Marvel

The Captain Marvel team have been out in force to take the spotlight this week, sharing juicy behind-the-scenes intel with a range of media types.

First up was Global News, who visited our Montreal office to interview VFX Supe Christian, Producer Sophie and Line Producer Patricia – have a watch here.

Christian and Sophie then visited CBC for a live radio interview for CBC Homerun.
Christian also had a chinwag with movie site Flickering Myth, delving into the film’s VFX and talking about his own career trajectory.
For the French-speakers among us, check out Line Producer Patricia and DMP Artist Laurence Provost’s interview in Le Journal Metro AND CG Supe Romain Rico and Patricia speaking to Journal de Montreal

Ready to face off against a White Walker? Christine Cattano gives us a sneak peek of the upcoming Game of Thrones Magic Leap & VR experience, which previews next week at AT&T stores in Boston, Chicago and San Francisco #thedeadmustdie #ForTheThrone⚔

Further info about the launch in next week’s round-up.

Trade bible Variety also gets in on the sword-wielding action with this story – a far tastier item than a slice of Frey Pie.

Jessica Vile (LDN) grades the new Bed Head spot ‘Your Vibe, Our Tribe’

Simon Bourne (LDN) has also been working his magic on the latest spots for Miller Lite as they take on Bud Light and the Bud Light Knight. Try saying all that after a few cans!

And Beau Leon (LA) graded the dark and moody Lifetime music video for experimental musician Yves Tumor.

Nothing Remains

Massive congrats to Hong Yane Wang (Production, IA) as her short film ‘Nothing Remains’ has its Italian premiere at MACRO (the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome) this week. Written and directed by Wang, the film is a response to climate change & also features Xin Zhao (Animator, Film) as a calligrapher, and a special voice contribution by Danielle Nadal (Production, IA)

& that’s nearly a wrap, except to wish the New York team good luck as they move into their new downtown digs on Monday. The team are looking forward to switching neighbourhoods to the financial district, and we hear the new office has spectacular views across Manhattan.

Thanks for the memories, Spring Street!

Enjoy your weekend 🙋🏻
